St. Josemaria Escriva
Patron Saint of Opus Dei
St. Josemaria Escriva was a twentieth-century priest known for calling all Catholic faithful, no matter their vocation, to everyday holiness. Initially from Spain, St. Josemaria eventually moved to Italy where he founded the Opus Dei movement focused on the idea of everyday holiness. He taught that this holiness is not meant just for priests or missionaries, but it is for everyone. We are all called to strive for holiness throughout our daily life. Pope St. John Paul II frequently spoke of St. Josemaria Escriva, building on his everyday holiness in his universal call to holiness. May we learn from the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva to strive for holiness throughout our daily life, no matter where we are or the situation we are in.
