Sts. Nereus and Achilleus

Pope St. Damasus tells us that Nereus and Achilleus were soldiers in the Roman army where they helped carry out the persecution of Christians during the early Church. We are not told how they were converted, but only that it was a “miracle of faith”. While the story of their martyrdom is not known, they are included in lists of early Church martyrs.
