St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Patron Saint of those Suffering with Polio and Devotees of the Sacred Heart

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque was chosen by Christ to inspire a devotion in the Church to the love symbolized by the heart of Jesus. Her early years were marked by sickness and a painful home situation. “The heaviest of my crosses was that I could do nothing to lighten the cross my mother was suffering.” -St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

After considering marriage for some time, Margaret Mary had a vision of Jesus and His Sacred Heart, and she thus entered the Order of the Visitation nuns at the age of 24. Margaret Mary continued to have visions of Jesus and His Sacred Heart, leading her to write Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is still popular today.
