St. Hedwig

St. Hedwig was a wife and mother married to the duke of Silesia (now Poland) at the end of the 12th century. She used her wealth and power to help establish monasteries, build hospitals, and promote peace. She spent her final years living in a monastery in Trebnitz participating in their religious exercises and died in 1243.
