St. Lawrence of Brindisi

Patron Saint of Brindisi

St. Lawrence of Brindisi was a Capuchin Franciscan friar, theologian and gifted linguist. This was of great help when he was named Papal Nuncio in several different countries. Lawrence was also known for his great administrative skills and served as the head of the Capuchins during the early 1600s. Long after his death in 1619, the order compiled his extensive catalogue of writings into fifteen volumes. He was canonized in 1881 by Pope Leo XIII and named a Doctor of the Church by Pope St. John XXIII in 1959.
