St. Barnabas

Patron Saint of Cyprus and Against Hailstorms

We first learn about St. Barnabas in the Acts of the Apostles. Barnabas introduces St. Paul to St. Peter and the other apostles. He traveled with St. Paul helping him share the teachings of Jesus Christ with those who were still suspicious of the former persecutor’s intentions. Later in their ministry, they went their separate ways to evangelize the world because of a disagreement. Barnabas wanted to have his cousin, John Mark, author of the Gospel of Mark, join them in their evangelization. However, Paul insisted that Mark was not fit to join them because he deserted them before. All three men eventually reconciled before they were martyred for their faith (see Acts 9-15).
