Bl. Stanley Rother

Blessed Stanley Rother was an American Roman Catholic priest from Oklahoma who was martyred in Guatemala in 1981. Blessed Stanley grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, living on a farm with his family. He started to discern the priesthood in high school and entered seminary shortly after. Blessed Stanley struggled academically in seminary, but with the help of Bishop Victor Reed, he persevered and was ordained in 1963. He is the first US-born priest and martyr to be beatified by the Catholic Church and the second person to be beatified on United States soil.
