Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her Nativity is important because she was prepared, from her conception, to be the one who would bear the Savior of the World, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Celebrating her birthday reminds us of the profound gift the Father gave us in his Son, Jesus. Her obedience and love for the Father led to our salvation. “She [Mary] is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley.” -St. Augustine
