St. Robert Bellarmine

Patron Saint of Catechists, Catechumens, and Canon Lawyers

St. Robert Bellarmine was a Jesuit, theologian, and Cardinal. His career began as a professor of theology at the Roman College, an institution founded by St. Ignatius. Pope Clement VIII elevated Bellarmine to be the rector of the college and eventually a Cardinal. He is also well known for his work Disputations on the Controversies of the Christian Faith. He was a well-known and highly sought after theologian for his catechetical insights. Two of his catechisms helped clarify the faith during the Counter Reformation. Bellarmine is the patron saint of canon lawyers, catechists, and catechumens.
