St. Giuseppe Moscati

Patron Saint of Biochemistry and Doctors

St. Giuseppe Moscati was an Italian lay doctor and scientific researcher in the eighteenth and nineteenth century known for being a faithful Catholic practicing medicine. In 1906, he helped save the life of many elderly and paralytic patients at the hospital where he was serving when Mount Vesuvius erupted. In 1911, he helped the city of Naples during their cholera epidemic by researching the origins of the disease and ways to help slow its spread. Throughout his whole career, Giuseppe attended daily Mass. He was also known for his charity towards the poor and never made them pay for his services. Giuseppe can be a model and an inspiration for all Catholics living their faith while practicing medicine and biomedical research.
