St. Francis of Paola

Patron Saint of Sailors

St. Francis of Paola was born in Italy in 1416. From the time he was 14, he lived in solitude in a cave, devoting himself to prayer. As he got older, more people joined him, forming the beginning of his religious community known as the Minims. They were known as the Minims for their commitment to humility and continual penance. Throughout his life with the Minims, Francis is remembered for his ability to combine an ascetical life with an active one in order to serve the Church. “Be lovers of peace, the most precious treasure that anyone can desire.” -St. Francis of Paola
