St. Ambrose

Patron Saint of Learning, Beekeepers, and Beggars

St. Ambrose was Bishop of Milan in the 4th century. Many credit St. Ambrose as being involved in the conversion of St. Augustine. St. Ambrose is also remembered for his engaging preaching and writing, as well as his many contributions to the Tradition of the Church. When Ambrose became bishop in 374, he was not the influential theologian we know today. However, while he was bishop, he trained in theology and began his prolific writing. He wrote extensively on Scripture as well as moral and dogmatic issues of his day. Ambrose also composed a collection of music which today are known as the Ambrosian Hymns. “No one is good but God alone. What is good is therefore divine, what is divine is therefore good.” -St. Ambrose
