St. Albert Chmielowski

Patron Saint of Albertines

St. Albert Chmielowski was born in 1845 in Poland. In his youth, he fought for his country; this led to him getting seriously injured and caused him to live the rest of his life with a wooden leg. He recognized he had a talent for painting and became a well-known painter throughout Poland. One day, while painting an image of Christ, he realized he had a vocation to religious life. He eventually joined the Third Order of St. Francis as a brother and founded the Albertines. Today, the Albertines continue their mission of serving the homeless throughout Poland.
