Bl. Ramon Llull

Bl. Ramon Llull was a thirteenth-century man from Spain who, after experiencing visions, became a contemplative theologian and philosopher. His principal work is the Art which is a system of universal logic. Many of the techniques he described in his Art are precursors to modern computational theory, showing that he had an intellect far ahead of his time. Even though his works were not well received during his time, they are influential today. In addition to his contemplative work, Ramon Llull was a missionary to Arabic-speaking Northern Africa. He advocated for missionaries to preach in the people’s native language as a way to spread the faith. His life was a model of combining prayer, intellectual, and missionary pursuits.
