Bl. Mercè Prat i Prat

Bl. Mercè Prat i Prat was born in Spain in 1880. After both of her parents died while she was a teenager, she cared for her brothers and sisters. In 1910, she made her final vows to the Teresian Sisters. While in this religious community, she worked extensively in education as well as in the motherhouse helping to maintain the order. During the Spanish Civil War, Mercè Prat i Prat was charged for being a nun with a sentence of death. She was martyred in 1936. Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1990 as a model for persecuted Christians in today’s world.
